Nathan was able to address 500 delegates at the Tulsa County GOP Convention on March 24, 2012. The GOP allowed the candidates running for office to introduce themselves, state the office they were running for, and allowed them to give a one and a half minute stump speech.

With the completion of the 2010 census, several precincts and districts were redrawn. As a result of this redistricting, Oklahoma Senate District 33 was moved and redrawn since the incumbent state senator’s term was set to expire due to term limits. This created an open seat and an open door of opportunity.
